Brocklehurst is banned for two years
FORMER Halifax back rower Andrew Brocklehurst has been banned for two years by an anti-doping panel after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, and the stimulant ephedrine.
Brocklehurst, a former Ovenden junior who coached amateur side Halifax Irish to the Pennine League title two years ago, was tested by Sport England after pulling out of the Barrow side to play Batley shortly before kick off in June this year.
The former England Academy international, who began his career with Fax before moving to London Broncos when the club dropped out of Super League at the end of 2003, did not contest the charge.
The Raiders, who went on to beat Fax in the Championship Grand Final at the beginning of October, sacked Brocklehurst "for gross misconduct" the week after the game at Mount Pleasant.
That prompted widespread speculation over the nature of his offence, which was only ended when the Rugby Football League finally confirmed his suspension, which will be backdated to June, yesterday afternoon.
