THIEVES stole hundreds of pounds worth of equipment and even cancer charity cash from a Halifax hairdressers.

The culprits smashed their way into Deb ‘n’ Hair on Ovenden Road, Ovenden, to get inside on Monday night.

Deborah Hollingworth, who has run the salon for 34 years, discovered the break-in when she arrived yesterday morning.

As well taking hair straighteners and products, she said the culprits had broken open a collecting box for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“We’d had it here about a fortnight,” she said. “People have been really generous. There would have been between £30 and £40 inside.”

She said the equipment that was taken was worth hundreds of pounds and she will also have to shell out for a new door.

Because she has some equipment at home, she has been able to open as usual.

Police said they were alerted to the burglary at 9am yesterday.

Scientific support officers were dispatched to gather forensic evidence.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call Calderdale Police on 0845 6060606 or CrimeStoppers, where information can be passed on anonymously, on 0800 555111.
