And the winners are...
THEY are the hard-working individuals and devoted groups who make Calderdale a caring and sharing, cleaner and greener place to live.
And at the Courier's inaugural Community and Environment Awards on Thursday evening these oft-unsung heroes were given the night of their lives with a celebration of all their good work.
Eleven awards were given out in ten categories at the black tie event, attended by more than 175 people at Berties, Elland.
Among the winners were waste collectors Kerbside who picked up two awards, Ravenscliffe High and Old Earth Primary who shared the Green School category, and Holly Bottomley, the Outstanding Individual Achievement winner who got a huge ovation for her 31 years working at Brighouse Rest Centre.
But the over-riding message on the evening - held in partnership with the Community Foundation for Calderdale and sponsored by HBOS - was a massive thank you on behalf of the community to all 30 groups and individuals shortlisted, and the countless others who entered.
Courier editor John Furbisher said: "Tonight was all about giving a much-deserved showcase for the groups and individuals who make Calderdale the caring and conscientious place we all know and love.
"Everyone on the shortlist deserves to be recognised for their fantastic hard work - which so often takes place away from the spotlight - but we are especially delighted for all the winners."
Steve Duncan, from the Community Foundation, added: "It was a superb evening enjoyed by all who were there.
"It was fantastic to recognise all the positive things that are being done in Calderdale at a time when there is so much uncertainty in the district.
"The Community Foundation were delighted to be involved."
