The future looks bright for Halifax-born Ffion Bell after getting a helping hand in her chosen profession from facilities management firm Bilfinger Europa.

The 18-year-old studied for an electrical installation city and guilds qualification at Calderdale College before joining Bilfinger and their team who work at RSA Insurance Group in Halifax.

Ffion is an electrical apprentice with Bilfinger, who deliver services including maintenance, electrical works, cleaning, catering and security.

Ffion said: “After I finished my A-Levels I knew that I didn’t want to go to university, however I was very interested in learning a trade.

“I didn’t fancy plumbing, but an electrical role really appealed to me.

“I know some people will think that it is an unusual career choice, especially for a young woman, but I’m really enjoying it and it’s an added bonus to secure such a great position with a national company in my home town.”

Facilities manager Julia Hutchinson said: “Ffion has come in and been very professional right from the start and demonstrated an enthusastic and mature approach to her work.

“She has already proved to be a great addition to the team based at RSA and I’m sure she’ll go on to achieve great things in her career.“

Tracey Grobler, from RSA, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ffion to the Bilfinger FM team at RSA and to be supporting her whilst she trains in her chosen profession.“

Richard Dady, from JTL Training, who made Ffion aware of the opportunity, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Ffion to gain an industry standard qualification at Level 3 in the Electrical Installation, Building Engineering Services Sector, which can lead on to many other opportunities including further qualifications up to Degree Level.

“Many learners completing the Level 3 qualification go on to careers in management and some start their own successful businesses.

JTL will support Ffion at every step of the way to achieve this qualification.“
