Talks take place later this month which could see Elland-based Bertie’s in new ownership.

Managing director Rebecca Shaw said a prospective buyer was interested in taking over the business as a going concern.

“We have been looking to sell the business and have interest,” she said.

Talks with a potential buyer take place on June 19 when the position should become clearer.

In the meantime Ms Shaw said it was business as usual at Bertie’s which hosts dinners, weddings and prom nights and also has a catering arm.

Bertie’s opened in the late 1980s by Brett Woodward.

He was joined in 2008 by his friend and businessman the late Nigel Denham.

The boom in school proms saw Bertie’s become a popular venue for end-of-year parties for several Calderdale schools.

Its Crystal Ballroom can accommodate up to 275 people, the Rennie Mackintosh Room around a 100, and Number One Brook Street is aimed at smaller dinner parties and business meetings.

Competition has grown in recent years with the development of the Shay banqueting suite and The Venue at Barkisland.
