Businessman sleeping rough for charity

A Calderdale businessman will spend Thursday night on the streets as part of a campaign to raise awareness of homelessness.

Gareth Henderson, managing director of Orchard Energy, Park Road, Elland, will be among more than 20 “Suits on the Streets.”

The businessmen will gather under the arches at Foster Square Railway Station, Bradford.

Mr Henderson said: “Those of us taking part know that it is just one night and we can go home afterwards but the reality for many is that they cannot and whatever the weather, they will be sleeping rough night after night.

“We need to step up and provide help now to provide winter shelter to help people in our local communities who will be sleeping rough this winter.”

The event will also raise funds for Inn Churches which helps the homeless find accommodation all year round and runs its own shelter from November to February.

Juli Thompson, manager of the project, which provides 3,000 beds for homeless people in West Yorkshire, said those taking part were seeking sponsorship.

“Suits on the Streets will fund all the services we provide over the winter,” she said.
