Revellers have no excuse for drink driving this year as First, one of the region’s principal bus operators has launched an innovative Xmas ticket to encourage people to travel by bus.

From this week any two people travelling after 5pm will be able to travel on First buses an unlimited number of times for just £5.

This is a significant saving on the price of regular bus ticket, money that can be saved and then used for shopping or leisure purposes during the Christmas and New Year period (offer expires Sunday 5 January).

First has decided to launch the ticket to support local police, road safety organizations and local authorities as they launch anti drink and drive campaigns for the festive period.

The ticket is on offer on any First bus travelling in the evenings (including New Year’s Eve) and is available for use for two people travelling together – although one person can use the ticket if they so wish.

A First spokesman said: “The bus is a great substitute for the car at this time of year and offers people a safer value for money alternative when planning their travel.

“We believe this innovative and customer friendly ticket will prove popular with people looking to have a drink together over Christmas and avoid the thought of drink driving or a costly taxi journey.

“We work closely with local authorities and businesses to help stimulate trade at the busiest shopping time of the year and we want to support our local communities to ensure they have a fun-filled and safe festive period.”
