The Conservative group on Calderdale Council has called-in Labour’s plans to redevelop Hipperholme crossroads.

The scheme was passed last week by Cabinet, but by calling the scheme in the Conservatives hope to put the plans to a vote by full council.

Scott Benton (Con, Brighouse) was the first named signatory on the call-in papers and hopes the call-in will put the scheme under greater scrutiny.

Coun Benton said: “We’ll be outlining our reasons for the call-in, and then Barry Collins and the officers will have the opportunity to respond.

“We’ll hear from members of the public and we’ll then have a debate as a panel and then decide what to do.

“The Conservative point of view is that we disagree with Cabinet’s proposals in terms of the decisions which have been taken.

“We want the proposals to go to full council so we can put a stop to Cabinet’s decision.

“We’re quite optimistic that by working with the other parties on the council, we’ll be able to get this vote through.

“The call-in papers have also been signed by a Liberal Democrat, so that’s a very positive sign.”

The decision will be made at a meeting this evening (Thursday) at Halifax Town Hall.
