Heights (UK) Ltd at Wainstalls has completed phase one of a £2.75 million expansion.

The project started in 2013 and will be completed in 2015 and is creating 40 jobs.

Phase one comprises excavation of the site, drainage and flood prevention schemes. Also, a new access road off Cold Edge Road into the site to service the new units and take the bulk of traffic away from the village centre and school.

The units will house purpose-built manufacturing and testing facilities for a new range of technologically advanced printing plate processors. These, coupled with computer-to-plate imaging engines, will process written copy and images onto printing plates used for commercial and packaging printing applications worldwide.

Heights) is the only company producing such products in the UK, and is now developing a range of “green” processing equipment for the manufacture of printing plates.

Exports accounted for over 90 per cent of production output in 2013. Much of that is branded and sold through international companies head quartered in Europe, North America and Japan. The company’s North American subsidiary Heights USA Inc. supports the equipment manufactured in Halifax in the North and South American and Canadian markets.

Associate company Heat Electric Ltd, also at Wainstalls, makes a range of energy efficient water filled electric radiators used as an alternative to gas and oil central heating systems and is also part of the expansion programme.
