Family firm Collett Transport have taken ownership of a brand new girder bridge - the largest capacity trailer in Europe.

At a joint event in Germany, the new Scheuerle STB 550 girder bridge with a payload of 550 tonnes was unveiled and officially handed to new owners.

Currently unrivalled in Europe, the flexible and modular addition to the Collett fleet features hydraulic widening and the ability to lower the load without the use of additional cranes.

Collett will initially use the girder bridge to transport 350 Tonne transformers, but will have the opportunity at any time to increase to a 550 tonne full version with the installation of a second deck set.

The STB 550 offers several options for accommodating generators and transformers with different dimensions and supports.

Through this, the STB 550 will enable Collett to efficiently handle a vast range of different loads.

“We are proud to be the owners of the largest capacity trailer in Europe,” said David Collett, managing director of Collett & Sons Ltd.

“This reflects our Companies strategy of investment in diverse equipment to serve the niche markets of the Power Generation industry.

“Together with our engineers and those of Scheuerle, we have once again brought innovation to the marketplace. We look forward to working with the girder bridge in the near future.”
