Owner forced to close Sowerby Bridge restaurant

Closure: Salt Bar and Grill, Sowerby Bridge.

Closure: Salt Bar and Grill, Sowerby Bridge.

A restaurant owner has lost his fight to keep his business going after being forced to close just after Christmas.

Tony Watkins of Salt Bar and Grill at the Wharf in Sowerby Bridge was advised on Christmas Eve to put the business into administration.

The restaurant opened on Boxing Day before the decision was made to close for good on December 28 - with those who paid for New Year’s Eve tickets getting a refund.

Tony, owner since October 2011, said mounting overheads and difficult economic conditions were to blame.

“We didn’t know until Christmas Eve what was going to happen,” he said.

“We had so few bookings in the first weeks of the New Year that we were advised to close.

“We contacted everyone we had details for to refund New Year’s Eve tickets and left a note on the door for those we couldn’t contact.

“We put a lot of hard work in to turn it around, but we couldn’t.”
