A small Holywell Green business has teamed-up with global chemical company BASF to make inroads into the wind turbine market.
Pexa, employing 20 staff, is a specialist supplier of surface finishing materials.
The BASF RELEST wind system for the coating of turbine blades has been developed to provide extreme durability.
The booming market could multiply four-fold by 2020.
Working in partnership Pexa and BASF are helping to create the supply chain which will support the UK’s production and maintenance of wind turbine blades.
Pexa will concentrate on developing approvals with the UK based wind turbine industry, training and certifying operators and contractors to apply the system. The firm will also provide full technical support.
Pexa business development manager Paul Clayton said it was an exciting development for the company.
“It’s a real feather in Pexa’s cap for BASF to partner Pexa in this,” he said.
“The biggest cause of damage to a blade is rain and Pexa has been able to demonstrate it is able to look after an extended supply chain.”
Pexa also supplies materials and support packages to the aerospace, defence, energy and electronics industries.
