The Halifax and District Rail Action Group (HADRAG) will be holding its annual meeting in Halifax this weekend.
The meeting marks 30 years of HADRAG campaigning for better railways in our district.
Items on the agenda include proposals to open a new rail station at Elland and the electrification of the Calder Valley line.
Stephen Waring, chair of HADRAG, said: “The prospects are looking very bright for Elland, but we need to hear news and action to move things on to the next stage and get the project under way.
“There’s a lot of frustration over how long it takes to plan in this vast complex structure which is the British railway system.”
Chair of Metro James Lewis will be the guest speaker at the meeting.
Mr Waring said: “He’s a crucial figure in public transport development in West Yorkshire and beyond.
“It’s quite an interesting time, because it’s 40 years since Metro started and they’ve been responsible for a lot of developments in rail passenger services over that period.”
Mr Waring said the meeting will be used to call on the government to move along with its plans to upgrade the Calder Valley line between Bradford and Manchester.”
The meeting will take place at the Orangebox on Saturday May 10 at 10.30am.
