Step back in time at 1940's weekend

There's only a month to go until Brighouse steps back in time for it's 1940's weekend, featuring a fun-packed weekend of entertainment.

Brighouse town centre and its shops will be transformed into a 1940’s theme, with visitors encouraged to dress in old-fashioned clothing to add to the period feel.

Visitors will be able to sit in a Spitfire, ride on a vintage bus, bake 40’s bread, see Churchill and King George VI, sing-along with George Formby and learn to dance the Lindy Hop.

Major attractions at the event include a variety show, dances and a fly-past by RAF BBMF Dakota on Saturday, June 6 at 1.20pm.

There will be a vintage market and local food and craft market, vintage military and civilian vehicles , a steam train and fairground rides, remembrance service and parades and living history displays.

There wiil be displays on the British Army, The Dambusters, prams and the civilian homefront.

Dances will be held with the Calderdale Big Band on Friday, June 3 at the Assembley Rooms and with the NyteBeat Glenn Miller Sound on Saturday, June 4, also at the Assembley Rooms.

The classic TV sitcom Allo Allo will be recreated on stage, with three performances over the weekend.

The remake of the Dad’s Army film, starring Toby Jones, Bill Nighe, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtney, will also be shown on Thursday, June 2 at the Assembley Rooms.

The event runs from Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 5.
