Weir Valves and Controls UK Ltd, of Elland, has won a prestigious Gold Medal in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2014.
The medal is given to a company that has achieved the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident’s gold standard for five consecutive years.
Representatives from the firm will be presented the award during a ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow on September 17.
The RoSPA Awards, which date back 58 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work.
Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all sizes, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Weir, contribute to a raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”
Colin Somers, Weir’s Environment Safety and Health Manager, said: “We are proud to have our efforts in reducing safety related incidents recognised in this way.
“It is a tribute to the efforts of the entire workforce in our Elland facility.
“With this award in mind it is also crucial that we continue to regard safety as being the number one consideration in all of our activities.”
