Business in the Environment shortlist
THEY ranged from a massive multi-national to a family-run firm but what all the nominations for the Business in the Environment award had in common was world class green policies
Judge John Furbisher said: "The diversity of entrants is incredible, exactly what we wanted."
Marshalls Plc, the Elland landscaping products business which has worked on projects around the UK and world, will be among the shortlist due to their unswerving commitment to sustainability and carbon-reduction. They were also praised for sponsoring several projects by school and community groups to improve the district's environment.
Mr Furbisher said: "It's easy to be clean and green when you're a tiny little firm but to be so when you're this big is a completely different ball game, they do so well."
At the opposite end of the scale, the family-run Kilner Green Woodworks were shortlisted after showing extreme environmental consciousness and encouraging customers and clients to do the same.
Judge Nick Johnston said: "These guys are green gods. Everything they do is driven by the environment; we could all learn from them."
In between in scale was Hebden Bridge's Green Refurb, a firm which seeks to make people's homes more energy efficient and eco friendly. They organised the Big Green Weekend earlier this year.
Mr Furbisher said: "It is brilliant for any organisation to hold such high profile events."
