Butchers boasts brilliant bangers

A Halifax butchers is sizzling with success after their sausages and bacon were awarded six gold medals at a recent roadshow.

F & A Walker Butchers of King Cross won eight medals overall at the Pork Butchers Regional Roadshow at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

Sausage specialist Garry Ogden entered six different types of banger and apprentice butcher William Booth submitted three varieties of bacon, including an Italian bacon called Guanciale.

Veronica Walker, a partner in the business, said: “It’s great that two hard-working members of staff have got such a pat on the back like this as well.

“We’re a traditional butchers shop and it’s nice that our work has been recognised in this way.

“We also entered sausages in a competition in January and gained quite a few gold awards for quite a few different flavours.

“People like what we do and the footfall through the shop just keeps increasing year on year so we must be doing something right.”
