A CALDERDALE company is a leading light in the fight against climate change.
Zodion Ltd has been providing innovative lighting and lighting control solutions throughout the UK.
There is a strong focus on carbon management and the Sowerby Bridge based company has unrivalled products to provide energy and carbon management solutions for exterior lighting.
As the Government places more legislative emphasis on counteracting the effects of climate change Zodion is producing products to reduce energy and carbon emissions.
Its lighting control products directly address this challenge using Vizion® - a remote control system for streetlighting - particularly suited to enabling very significant energy and carbon reductions.
This commitment to this area has seen Zodion agree a deal in 2009 to manage nearly all of Cornwall’s 51,000 street lights using the system.
With almost 30,000 units already installed this is believed to be the largest single installed estate of remote-controlled streetlighting within the UK.
The business employs more than 60 staff at its site on Station Road, Sowerby Bridge, covering administration, engineering, production, logistics and a specialist salesforce.
Many of them have been with the firm for over 25 years and the business prides itself on its highly experienced and loyal workforce.
Despite the recent tough economic climate Zodion says its committed and experienced employees have allowed the business to boast strong growth and it continues to be held in high regard within its market.
This has been down to a committed approach towards new products and customer service which has allowed it to more than double its sales figures in four years.
Although the company provides it solutions throughout the UK it is maintaining a commitment to Calderdale and West Yorkshire with the vast majority of its components sourced from within 75 miles of Sowerby Bridge.
Aside from the street and outdoor lighting Zodion also offers lighting solutions for leisure and commercial vehicles through its Lumo® brand.
The low-voltage lighting is aimed at vehicles where interior lighting is crucial such as motorhomes, caravans and builders’ vans.
The Lumo brand has been able to meet the high standards demanded by customers through rigorous attention to the demands of ever more discerning customers.
Lumo has also remained at the forefront of lighting technology rapidly changing its product range to reflect the benefits of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), light-sources highly suited to mobile applications. This new light-source has also resulted in innovation in the design and format of light fittings with many products recently redesigned to benefit from the opportunities offered by LEDs.
The future looks bright for Zodion after they were acquired by Oxford based company W Lucy & Co Ltd who supply lighting products to the electricity supply industry.
It is hoped this will increase the company’s market share and push their products into new areas.
