Contract repeat in pipeline
A SIX-FIGURE contract has been secured by a valve manufacturer.
Weir Valves and Controls UK Ltd, part of the Weir Power and Industrial Division, of Elland, won the repeat order for its Batley Butterfly Valves (BV) 22000 series from British Energy.
The new order follows the successful development and delivery, in only 20 weeks, of work specifically developed for British Energy.
The valves are destined for Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station, near Morecambe in the UK.
The new pipework is being installed to reduce the effects of corrosion within the reactor cooling system.
Mike Craddock, system health engineer for Heysham 2 Power Station, said: "We are extremely pleased not only with the performance of the BV 22000 valves but also with their ability to develop, manufacture and deliver the valves in only 20 weeks, which was a key requirement."
Peter O'Reilly, sales and marketing director at Weir, said: "The recent multi-million pound investment in the new facility in Elland has allowed the company to significantly cut lead times, which means we can deliver all our valves within a 20 to 36 week schedule.
"This is proving to be a major benefit to many of our customers."
Heysham 2 can supply electricity for more than 1.5 million homes.
Weir specialises in improving efficiency at power and industrial plants across the world.
