Engineering students show how to save on fuel bills

A TEAM of engineering students were in Halifax to show people how they can cut their fuel bills.

The group from Bradford University's school of engineering, design and technology were offering their tips to the public in Russell Street.

A series of demonstrations were given, including using solar panels and electric bikes, to show people how they can cut their carbon footprint and save money at the same time.

Samples of soap were also shown, made as a by-product from bio diesel which was made from used cooking oil.

Jack Bradley, a lecturer in manufacturing systems at Bradford University, said: "The environment is very important to the university and we feel this is a great opportunity to share ideas on what people can do for the planet while saving them money.

"We hope by doing the roadshows people will realise just how easy it is to make a difference."

The roadshow team members, joined by Hebden Bridge's Alternative Techn-ology Centre, answered people's questions on how the energy-saving devices could be used within homes.

The university is giving demonstrations after getting funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering's Ingenious programme.
