A Halifax farm shop is in the running for a ‘rural oscar’ after being nominated in the 2012 Countryside Alliance Awards.
Far Barsey farm shop, which opened in May 2006, is a family run business in Barkisland and has been entered in the local food category of the regional phase of the competition.
Owner Ruth Dean said: “We’re delighted to be nominated. We put a poster up in the shop inviting our customers to vote for us but we were pleasantly surprised to find we’d been nominated.
“We’ve won a few awards for our sausages in the past and we were shortlisted for the Yorkshire Post awards with our Yorkshire Tea bread.
“We diversified seven years ago from running a dairy farm and it’s been a huge success, we’ve had lots of support and it’s gone very well. To win this award would be really great.”
The regional winners are announced in January and the grand final is in March.
