Firm cuts its diesel bills
A ROOFING specialist in Brighouse has got a little help to reduce its carbon footprint.
Ploughcroft Ltd, a roofing and building maintenance company, has just received three Mercedes Sprinter vans fitted with new eco-start systems.
The fuel-saving device automatically cuts the engine when the vehicle stands for more than two seconds. It re-starts when the driver presses the clutch.
Bradford dealer Northside Truck & Van supplied the vans, which are powered by "clean" diesel engines.
Chris Hopkins, managing director of Ploughcroft, said: "We're delighted with the performance.
"We're already achieving a 10 per cent reduction in fuel costs compared to the non-Mercedes vans they've replaced, and in these times of high prices at the pumps that's significant."
Mr Hopkins said more of the vans would be brought in.
Ploughcroft provides roofing and building services to councils, schools, colleges, hospitals and businesses.
Mr Hopkins said: "We've built a reputation for raising standards through our training facilities and courses, which we have opened to other companies."
Ploughcroft has seen a big increase in demand for "green" roofing options, such as solar panels for heating water.
