Firm giving a better definition of Yorkshire
A Halifax-based TV firm has invested in HD cameras to prepare for expected industry developments.
Chromavision, set up in Claremount in 1996, produces the popular Picture Postcard Yorkshire DVD series about Yorkshire tourist attractions, which sell globally as souvenir DVDs.
The latest 15,000 investment in HD cameras will cater for the increasing numbers of people buying HD television sets.
Chromavision director Steve Lord also hopes the new equipment will help once it becomes possible to allow people to download and buy programmes online, allowing him to reach a wider market.
Mr Lord said: "We have made the investment in HD cameras to offer something very few other media companies do.
"With increasing numbers of people buying HD television sets they now have the opportunity of seeing Yorkshire in all of its glory.
"There's already a buzz from the firms which supply our DVDs as they see it as a very strong selling point."
As well as the 'Picture Postcard' series, Chromavision has also made DVDs about the Yorkshire Moors, the Dales and one on crafts and traditions in the county.
Mr Lord said he expected his products could be downloaded and sold online in the near future. "That's the whole idea behind these HD cameras," he said. "In a few years time people will look online to download and buy programmes. Everybody already does it with music."
As a tester, he posted a clip of the Yorkshire Dales on YouTube and it has had 30,000 views in the last two years.
"That demonstrates people are online and looking for Yorkshire but there is no real mechanism for them to buy as a download at the moment. That's the future." Mr Lord quit his electronics career to work in film.
"It all started with a passion for filming," he said. "It's a labour of love. I get to photograph and film the Yorkshire region which I think is one of the best regions in the country in terms of landscape and diversity."
The first DVD he produced 14 years ago is still selling.
The firm also produces commercials, television features and corporate programmes.
