Coley Garden Centre is located on Denholme Gate Road in Northowram, Halifax.
Jeremy and Jo Waite started the business called Coley Nurseries Limited at Cinder Hill Farm in 1981 and in 1997 The Garden Centre Group took over the five acre site.
It is the nation’s largest garden centre group and has 128 centres nationwide.
Jeremy and Jo began selling mainly seedling and bedding plants, which they grew on-site. Further expansion took place when demand increased for good quality plants and expert knowledge.
Within a couple of years three greenhouses, a warehouse and a shop had been added.
The business soon established a reputation for quality and grew into a successful garden centre operating with a wholesale and specialist plant business in tandem.
Although plants remain at the heart of the business, these are complimented by a range of gardening products, garden furniture, barbecues, wild bird care products, giftware and greetings cards.
The centre also stocks a range of pet foods and pet accessories. It will be holding a Spring Gardening Celebration from April 14 until 29.
The event will include advice on gardening in spring, free cress seeds, while stocks last, for children to take home and grow and a photography competition.
Garden centre manager Tracy Robinson, said: “I have worked here for 27 years and between myself and the other members of the centre team we have more than 80 years’ experience in the horticultural industry.
“We have a small and passionate team of 14 staff and we continue to uphold the garden centre’s reputation for top quality plants at affordable prices and the centre’s horticultural standards remain impeccable.
“Members of staff like nothing better than to share their knowledge and dispense good practical advice in all aspects of garden care and the garden centre has become very much part of the local community.
“Every member of the team is trained to advise customers on a range of plant-related queries.”
Coley Garden Centre has also recently launched a new “Click and Collect” service.
It offers gardeners the chance to browse an online plant database via www.coleygardencentre.co.uk, to pre-order plants for their gardens and to then collect them from the centre.
Tracy added: “The service allows smaller centres such as Coley to offer the largest selection of plants in the UK.
“We also have a vibrant Gardening Club, with more than 9,000 members from the area.
“The Gardening Club is for anyone who enjoys gardening as much as we do. Membership is free and it’s easy to join. Members receive a special reward card and earn points every time they shop at the garden centre.”
