Help on jobs for disabled
A JOBS website has been launched to help disabled people struggling to compete in a difficult job market.
More than half of disabled people of working age are not employed.
Leading charity Leonard Cheshire Disability, which owns White Windows Cheshire Home, Sowerby Bridge, launched www.lcdisability.org/suitability to tackle the issue head-on.
Suitability, a partnership between Leonard Cheshire Disability, the Employers' Forum on Disability and Jobsgopublic, has a team of advisers who identify the skills, talent and experience of disabled jobseekers and match them with employers.
Jobseekers can get help from personal advisers, connect with others in the same situation and receive job alerts.
Employers can post vacancies online for free, recruit staff and sign up to virtual careers fairs.
Jane Fletcher, Leonard Cheshire Disability's innovations director, saidmany disabled people often faced "the serious challenge of changing people's perceptions of who they are and what they can do. Suitability aims to make it less exceptional to have a colleague who is disabled."
