A legal eagle from Halifax has spread her wings by setting up her own legal practice, creating three new jobs in the process.

Rachael Mounsey, from Elland, took the decision to establish her own firm of solicitors after giving birth to her first child in July last year.

The set up costs for RCM Solicitors came from Rachael’s savings and money borrowed from her family.

Rachael, a former Brooksbank School pupil, said: “I originally undertook a degree in criminology in 2001 at Lincoln University that gave me the first taste of criminal law.

“After that I decided to feed this interest and commenced a part time law degree at Leeds University in 2004.

“Then in 2006 I was given the offer to work at a law practice in Halifax. I went on to qualify as a solicitor.

“I now specialise in criminal and matrimonial litigation.I undertook my higher rights advocacy examination whilst heavily pregnant and gave birth in July 2013.

“After a very short period of maternity leave I was anxious to get back to work.

“I had a challenging time undertaking the role of a parent and a working mother.

“I then decided that in order to manage my new life style I should take the big step and start my own business.

“With the encouragement of family and friends I submitted an application to become a sole practitioner which was granted in July.

“My firm now specialises in private criminal litigation, company and commercial law. I employ three people. Ali Siddique is a consultant and brings a wealth of experience in commercial law and all types of litigation, Christopher McGivern is a trainee solicitor and Nicola Kelliher is my office manager.

“My firm is able to punch above its weight due to the strength of my team. We have no qualms about going up against and beating our larger competitors in any litigation.

“We aim to be the major player in the Calderdale legal market and the go to firm for all legal disputes.

“We will support the local community for years to come with great service at a reasonable price and I want to thank all of our clients for placing the firm on the road to success.”
