LLOYDS Banking Group has announced 1,600 job cuts today which will result in the loss of 70 jobs in Halifax.
The announcement relates to the “simplification” programme announced earlier which involves shedding 15,000 jobs through to 2014.
Approximately 40 of the losses in Halifax are in Group IT and result from the out-sourcing of work to India.
The remainder affect Group Property and the Learning and Transformation Team.
But, Halifax - as a centre of excellence - will have new opportunities for those affected and the number employed locally, around 6,500, has been static throughout the shedding of tens of thousands of jobs over recent years.
More later and in tomorrow’s Courier.
