MANUFACTURING AWARD: Key role in the local economy

SERVING the caravan industry has proved a winner for one Elland-based manufacturer.

BCA Group Ltd, of Lowfields Business Park, was established more than 20 years ago and has gone from strength to strength under managing director Wim Batist and his experienced team.

The company manufactures and supplies a variety of products for the caravan industry and its top reputation has spread to the rest of Europe.

The company deals with all major international caravan manufacturers with links set up by Mr Batist, who is Dutch.

As a major employer in the area - with several hundred local workers - judges were impressed by its key role in the local economy.

It is viewed as one of the strongest companies in Calderdale.

Mr Batist has a lifetime experience in the industry and is known for his in-depth knowledge, both technical and general, of the caravan market in the UK and Europe. His team, including Gordon King and Andrew Calvert, and a strong team of managers have ensured the company's year on year financial growth.

Also short-listed for the accolade were Pine By Design, of King Cross Street, Halifax, and Vanguard, of Raglan Street.

Furniture shop Pine by Design impressed judges with its phenomenal growth over the last six years, owing to demand for its range of handmade furniture and kitchens.

Vanguard was picked for its transformation from a traditional sub-contract company to a modern-day manufacturer, adapting its products to keep up with changing demand.

The award was sponsored by Crosslee.
