Michelin stars here we come! Restaurant hopes for mention in food 'bible'
THE owner of an Indian restaurant has his sights set on getting into the next Michelin Guide.
Harry Khinda, of Queensbury, believes Zaara's in Shipley, will impress inspectors enough to get him into next year's coveted guide to exceptional restaurants.
He was only recently told they have been visiting the restaurant on several occasions over a six to seven month period.
Once in the 130-year-old guide, a restaurant can work on gaining the star ratings.
"We serve good food – it's a different type of cuisine as it's not Pakistani or Kashmiri style, it's North Indian," said Mr Khinda. "There is less oil and a lot of different spices and we don't use food colouring.
"All the recipes are from what I learned from my family, so I've tried to keep it as we have it at home."
Mr Khinda was working for Yorkshire Bank's financial services department before fulfilling his ambition to set up his own restaurant two years ago.
"It's something I have wanted to do for years but I couldn't find the right premises. The guide is the most recognised book you refer to to find the best places to eat around the country."
Two Yorkshire restaurants that already have Michelin stars are the Box Tree at Ilkley and the Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey.
The Good Food Guide has now also been in touch and the restaurant is one of 58 to make it to the final round of the Tiffin Cup where MPs across the country vote for the best curry restaurant.
