A council chief can look forward to a bigger pay packet after councillors agreed to pay him extra for taking on more responsibility.
Robin Tuddenham, Director of Communities, will receive a £5,500 honorarium to cover 12 months from September due to the re-designation of his role.
That entails transferring responsibility for human resources and business change and performance management from the chief executive Merran McRae.
But, Coun Janet Battye (Lib-Dem Calder) told the full council meeting it was wrong he should be paid extra.
“This is about redistributing existing work within the management team - not additional work. It’s not the time to pay a well paid senior officer an additional sum when we are concerned about paying a living wage and changing staff conditions. There are staff who might lose out,” she said.
Councillors were told Mr Tuddendham would have a remit to review the services and it would allow the chief executive more time to represent Calderdale at a regional level.
