A couple of new new Haliax licensees have scooped a Campaign for Real Ale award.

The Cross Keys pub in Siddal, run by Hugh Kirby and Ruth Dunsmore, was presented with the CAMRA Pub of the Season certificate 12 weeks after the couple took on the independent freehouse.

CAMRA for Halifax and Calderdale made mystery visits to ale houses across the district to find the pefect pint in this year’s pub of the season.

Hugh said: “I had no idea - it was a total shock. It has come as a lovely welcome so soon after us taking on the venture.

“We’ve lots more in store too - we’re building a beer garden ready for the summer and have live music on the first and last Sunday of each month.”

On August 2, 3, 4 The Cross Keys will hold a beer festival where there will be more than 30 real ales on tap.
