IT’s that time of the year again where you get the chance to choose your favourite Yorkshire pub.
Last year’s competition saw Calderdale’s very own The Shibden Mill Inn pick up the the crown and business has boomed for the pub since.
Owner Simon Heaton said: “It was a huge honour to win in 2011 – the positive effect on business has been fantastic.
“We had our busiest ever December and lunchtime trade increased immediately after receiving the award and continues.
“The competition also helps put a real focus on good pubs that play a key role, whether it’s in tourism or simply the local community. We’d definitely encourage people to get involved this year – we will be!”
First round voting is now open with a shortlist of 30 pubs set to be drawn up from the public votes on May 20.
A panel of judges will then select a shortlist of 10 pubs then the public will choose Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub. The winner will be crowned at the Great Yorkshire Show, in July, in Harrogate.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We firmly believe Yorkshire has some of the finest, most varied pubs in the entire UK and this competition is a celebration of that.”
