Outstanding individual achievement: Standing ovation for Holly
WHEN Holly Bottomley's husband Jack nominated her to do a few weeks voluntary work for Brighouse Rest Centre, little did either of them realise 31 years later she would have become the very heart of the organisation.
Since that day when he put her forward, she has undertaken almost every role within the rest centre, including being chairperson and now manager.
And at the Courier's Community and Environment Awards, her three decades of selflessness was recognised when she was given the Outstanding Individual Achievement award, sponsored by Switalskis.
The 74 year old, of Hipperholme, got a standing ovation after colleagues said the centre - which provides meals and company for elderly people - simply could not have survived without her.
Mrs Bottomley said: "My husband put me forward and I could hardly say no but I'm so glad he did.
"It's been a lot of hard work over the 30 years but it's worth it just to think you've made a small difference to a few people."
But she said she was surprised to win the award.
"I've never won anything and I didn't expect this but it feels absolutely great."
