Halifax-based KB Industries UK has been shortlisted in the Best Recycled Product category for its KBI Flexi-Pave material at the 2014 MRW National Recycling Awards.
Flexi-Pave uses old ground-down car tyres, stone and a unique bonding agent to form a highly porous paving product.
Using recycled car tyres as its core material makes it one of the greenest infrastructure solutions on today’s market.
Water can pass directly through the material, allowing quick and efficient drainage directly in to the ground and aiding the natural replenishment of water levels.
Graham Pell, Sales & Marketing Director at the firm, which is based on Holdsworth Road in Holmfield, said: “Being shortlisted is a reflection of the hard work that has been put in by the company over the last three years.
“Since launching the product in to the UK we have worked tirelessly to promote the environmental benefits of using KBI Flexi™-Pave. The material has a number of operational advantages over traditional surfacing options, so the fact that it is also made from recycled material only serves to further enhance its standing. We are delighted that the judges have chosen to shortlist the product and we are now eagerly anticipating the awards ceremony in July.”
KB Industries is up against seven other nominees including B&Q and Nottingham Trent University at the awards, which take place at the Hilton Hotel in London on Thursday, July 3.
