Region set for 'green' energy
THE UK green goods and services sector is the sixth biggest in the world.
The Government is looking at how to make the most of the new global low carbon economy – currently estimated to be worth 3 trillion globally and employing 880,000 people in the UK.
Sales of low carbon and environmental goods and services in Yorkshire and the Humber in 2007 to 2008 were valued at 7.9 billion.
There are around 3,800 regional companies engaged in the sector, employing some 67,000 people.
The region generates 17 per cent of the UK's electricity and has industry with high power needs.
A number of companies are using technology to produce their own renewable energy.
Heat King, a division of TEV, based in Brighouse, manufactures and supplies air source and ground source heat pumps for residential and small commercial properties, providing energy efficient space and domestic hot water heating.
Sourcing renewable energy from air, water or earth, the units deliver up to 400 per cent energy efficiency.
