Guest speaker Rob Wilmot gave a talk entitled “An Introduction to Social Media Business” at a breakfast briefing held at Calderdale College.
He was one of the three founding executives of Freeserve which was the UK’s largest internet company (now part of Orange) and left in 2001 after seeing it through flotation and the £1.6bn sale to Wanadoo.
Since then he has built his reputation as an entrepreneur and has many interests which include his role as a non-executive director of the Government Procurement Service with special responsibility for digital engagement and a Fellow of the University of Bradford within the School of Computing, Information and Media.
With just under 33 million Facebook users and over 10 million Twitter users in the UK the college said it recognised the local business need for Social Media Training and networking opportunities.
It was one of three breakfast meetings due to take place at the college this year and more than 50 attended.
The next is in June and will be held in conjunction with Vocational Qualification (VQ) Week.
