Seal of approval for vets' practice
A VETS' surgery has been given accreditation by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
West Mount Vets' surgery in Halifax is the only approved small animal general practice hospital within a radius extending beyond central Bradford.
To be accredited practices volunteer for an inspection every four years and may also have spot-checks.
Helen Whitehill, senior vet at the hospital said: "The inspector was very thorough and spent two days looking at the practice in detail.
"To qualify as a hospital we not only had to pass a demanding inspection of the premises and equipment, but we also had to meet tougher requirements than other general practices for out-of-hours care.
"We are one of the few practices with both vets and support staff on-site every day and night of the year to care for sick and recovering overnight patients and emergencies.
"I'm thrilled by this recognition of high standards and quality of care.
"It's a real vote of confidence in my team of vets and nurses – we couldn't have done it without their help."
Richard Holborow, a director, said he was pleased by the inspector's words.
The inspection report said: "This is a very well-organised practice with friendly and efficient staff. The main surgery was well equipped, providing an excellent level of overnight care."
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Practice Standards Scheme was introduced to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
