Taking a lead on eco heat: New firm has energy in mind
A NEWLY formed business has secured exclusive rights to bring new fuel-efficient heating systems to homes and businesses.
Builder Glyn Eastwood and Andrew Lumb, a plumber and electrician, are directors of Eco Footprint Ltd, Sowerby Bridge, which focuses on renewable energy fittings, including solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Their aims are in line with Government targets driving homes and businesses to cut down their carbon footprint.
Now the company has been asked to take on exclusive rights of a new air source heat pump which can replace oil, gas or electric boilers.
Using a fridge-like heat exchange system, sucking in surrounding air, it can reduce carbon footprint by 50 per cent over conventional forms of heating.
"We're hoping to be the leader in air source heat pump supply in the UK," said Mr Eastwood.
"It's about having the right team behind us and the right quality."
He asked civil engineer Tony Caton, to be chief executive and take the business to the next level.
Mr Caton's high-profile career roles over the last 42 years include being operations manager for the building of Hong Kong Airport and constructions director for Terminal Four at JFK Airport in New York.
And he set up his own management consultancy, with a turnover of 16 million.
The new imported air source heat pumps can produce much higher temperatures than those currently available.
The first batch should arrive in the UK at the end of this month.
Deals are being struck with hundreds of distributors and installation companies.
Mr Caton said: "We are building up the structure of the company to form a sound foundation. Too many companies start with a new idea and rush into it and fall flat on their face as a result.
"We have got no intention of doing that.
"It's an extremely viable product, providing a more economical source of energy which the country is going to need."
Once the new product is off the ground, the firm plans to employ plumbers and electricians.
Fitting the pump costs a little less than a standard boiler, but its running costs are lower and it is expected to last longer.
