Tax boost for thousands in Calderdale

ABOUT 3,400 people in Calderdale will stop paying income tax this year as a result of measures announced in the Budget.

That figure will rise to 5,760 in 2013, according to the Liberal Democrats.

Calderdale Council’s Liberal Democrat leader Janet Battye said it would provide a much needed boost to people’s income during hard times.

At the same time the tycoon tax will ensure that very wealthy people pay at least 25 per cent of their income in tax, whereas before they paid as little as 10 per cent because the government has cut back drastically on income tax reliefs.

From 2013 the amount individuals can earn income tax free will rise to £9,205 and the expectation is that it will rise to £10,000 in 2014.
