Opinion in the town is split on whether the library and Northgate House should be bulldozed to make way for cut-price clothes giant Primark.

Scores of readers have flooded the Courier letters page, website and Facebook page with their views on the controversial plans by the Gregory Group.

The Broad Street developer has offered Calderdale Council millions of pounds to buy the buildings and replace them with the high street shop. Objectors argue the library should not be sacrificed for cheap clothes.

But those in favour of Primark claim the store will revive the town centre.
