The benefits of the Tour de France coming to Calderdale were outlined by Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, when he addressed a meeting of Business for Calderdale in Hebden Bridge.

The region will be the focus of world attention when the cycle race passes through Calderdale in July next year and he was thanked for securing Le Tour in Yorkshire against tough competition. Businesses also showcased their products at the meeting which was welcomed by Mr Verity.

Local authorities will create a 100-day festival of Yorkshire’s art and culture in the build-up to the race which will attract millions of spectators.
