Trustee Board of the Year shortlist

A THANKLESS task done by volunteers who give so much - that was the judges' verdict on those who work on the boards of Calderdale's community projects.

And with some excellent entries for the Trustee Board of the Year category, it was not easy deciding a shortlist of just three.

Judge Nick Johnston said: "This is a very difficult category because everyone who sits on a board does a fantastic job in their specialist areas."

After much discussion it was agreed the trustees of Halifax Opportunities Trust, which helps deliver 2 million of services in Calderdale's most deprived area, must be recognised.

Judge Roger Wilson said: "They are professionally managed and have created opportunities in a challenging environment."

Community recycler Kerbside's board was also praised for its professionalism and decision making.

Judge John Furbisher said: "The project has become part of the fabric of Calderdale. It is incredibly well loved."

And the third board shorlisted was that of Overgate Hospice at Elland, which provides services for the whole of Calderdale.

Mr Wilson said: "It touches the lives of many people in Calderdale and has been managed successfully for many years, it simply cannot be overlooked."
