Unemployment falls slightly in Calderdale

Last month 6,546 people were out of work and seeking Jobseekers’ Allowance compared to 6,596 the previous month.

The total represents 5 per cent of the workforce of which 4,438 are men (6.8 per cent) and 2,118 women (3.2 per cent). Nationally the unemployment stands at 2.52 million which is 7.8 per cent. The total number of people in employment fell 43,000 to 29.7 million. The Office for National Statistics said figures showed 15,000 more people were unemployed in the three months to the end of March and the lengthy period of falling unemployment has come to an end.
