Firefighters from across Calderdale are tackling a blaze at the Ovenden Way Hotel, Ovenden.

They were called to the pub, also know as the Ovenden Way Freehouse on Ovenden Way at 5.19am when they discovered 80 per cent of the rear and upper floor of the pub was on fire.

Crews from Illingworth, Halifax, Elland, Brighouse, Odsal and Fairweather Green are in attendance with the Hose Laying Unit from Mirfield and Personnel Welfare Unit from Fairweather Green.

Engines from five other appliances from around the brigade also attended to provide support.

Police have closed parts of the road surrounding the building as they help deal with the incident.

Fire investigators are at the scene and firefighters on the aerial appliance extinguish the remaining flames to the roof.
