Calderdale is safest place for workers

CALDERDALE people have the safest working conditions in the north.
A survey of people injured in workplace accidents across Yorkshire and Humberside last year found Calderdale had the fewest – only 75.
Leeds had the worst figures with 487 fatal and major injuries, while Wakefield, Bradford and Kirklees had more than double the number in Calderdale.
The survey was carried out by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and it has since urged employers to take urgent action to cut accident rates.
Lesley Mercer, head of employment relations and union services at the CSP, said, "One major or fatal injury at work is one too many.
"Staff safety is in the hands of employers but there is still an unreasonably high rate of workers being seriously, and even fatally, injured while doing their jobs.
"Employers need to take immediate steps to ensure workplace accidents are prevented and all employees are protected from the potentially devastating effects."
The statistics are taken from reported injuries last year.
