IRISH eyes were left smiling after a visit to Calderdale.

Austen O’Malley, chairman of Mayo County Council, was joined by councillors Margaret Adams and Cyril Burke for the trip, organised by the Calderdale – Mayo Twin Link Society.

The party met up with Mayor of Calderdale Nader Fekri, who showed them some of the sights of Hebden Bridge.

The party invited the Mayor and Mayoress for a return visit.

They later visited Wainhouse Tower and received a guided tour of Halifax.

Mr O’Malley said: “Our visit was a great opportunity to strengthen the ties between Mayo and Calderdale.

“Mayo people have been living and working in Calderdale since the mid-nineteenth century and helped to build many of the great buildings in the area.”
