Police today appealed for witnesses after a double decker bus crashed at Manchester Road, Bradford.

Emergency services were called just after noon and the driver had to be cut free and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

He is said to be in a serious, but none life-threatening condition.

The bus hit a central road barrier before ploughing into seven parked vehicles.

A metal spike from the barrier came through the bus and into the driver’s right leg causing him to lose a lot of blood.

Crews cut the ends off the spike before his legs could be released and he was taken to hospital with the spike still in his leg.

Twelve passengers suffered minor injuries, mainly whiplash, and were left in a state of shock.

The road was shut until 3.30 pm.

Police said the cause is still being investigated and want witnesses to contact them on 101.
