Work started at the Ainley Top roundabout this week and is set to continue until June.
The £2 million scheme is needed ahead of a new housing development on nearby Lindley Moor.
Much of the work is being done between 8 pm and 6 am on weekdays and the roundabout will be widened to three lanes with new traffic lights on each approach and exist.
Kirsti Wilkinson, general manager of Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, said disruption had been limited during the first week.
“So far there hasn’t been too much disruption to our guests; other than the lane reductions during off peak times,” she said.
“The council did carry out some acoustic testing in late 2013 to measure the impact that the road works would have on the hotel and our guests, unfortunately these results have not been shared with us to date, however as all of our bedrooms are all located at the rear of the property away from the actual roundabout we have not experienced any noise issues to date.
“Overall I am pleased that measures are finally being taken to both ease congestion on the roundabout and to make it safer for motorists and pedestrians alike, however it is disappointing that it will take so long and not be completed until June 2014.“
