Firecrews were called to a Halifax house fire in the early hours of the morning.

Halifax and Illingworth pumps were called to a derelict Byland house fire, off Keighley Road, at around 2am this morning (June 14).

Arsonists gained access to the property through an open window and then set alight a roll of carpet at the bottom of the stairs of the derelict property.

The fire was put and smoke was cleared by Halifax and Illingworth firefighters.

Police have since boarded-up the window of the property and investigations are now being made.
