Local butchers and bakers will have their eyes on the pies later this month.

The Pork Pie Appreciation Society’s 22nd charity pork pie competition takes place at the Old Bridge Inn, Ripponden on Saturday, April 26 from 2.30pm.

Friendly Brass Band will be playing throughout the afternoon while there will be a charity auction of items donated by local businesses.

The competition is open to all butchers and bakers who make their own pies, and entries have already been received from all over the country, including Devon and Cumbria.

Entries in the main competition should be standard individual pork pies made with cured meat only.

Last year saw the introduction of an Artisan Class, aimed at amateur pork pie makers.

Artist Ashley Jackson will be judging at the event but members of the public will be also able to judge the pies on appearance, and the nearest to the judges results will win a cash prize.

Late entrants can contact Peter Charnley on 01484 539715.
